Tracorum is an original Rock’n’Soul/Rhythm’n’Blues band from San Francisco, California. Serving as a touring and studio vehicle for the music of songwriter/pianist Fletcher Nielsen, epic live shows and original music are at the heart of this soul quenching, eclectic bay area talent. Steeped in traditional roots music the band has continued to create a positively unique sound that is the vast umbrella known as Tracorum.

The band contains a collection of some of the San Francisco bay areas most talented and varied musicians: The individual sounds of South African legend Ian Herman (Paul Simon, Sting, Mickey Hart Band, Vusi Mahlasela, Hugh Masekela,) on drums and champion Mark Calderon(Leo Neocentelli,Vusi Mahlasela) on bass coupled with soulful songwriter/pianist/vocalist Fletcher Nielsen and the electric Derek Brooker on guitar make for a band who’s sound is equally masterful both in the studio and live on stage.

The band has released three studio albums:
2006 – “Rock n Soul”
2011 – “The Lesson” Added and in rotation on over 130 College/AAA Radio Stations. The song Break the Chains was a 2011 IMA award finalist.
2013- “Tricked” released on 1/8/13 and already added and in rotation on over 150 College/AAA Radio Stations

Tracorum has shared the stage with great acts such as Robert Randolph Family Band, Trombone Shorty, Rebirth Brass Band, Ivan Neville Dumpstafunk, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Umphreys McGee, Bill Kreutzmann’s (Grateful Dead) 7 Walkers, Mickey Hart Band (Grateful Dead), Anders Osborne, Leo Neocentelli and many others…

Song writing and consistent gut wrenching concerts separate this band from the masses. In 7 years Tracorum has toured consistently inking over 800 shows from California to New Orleans to Amsterdam and beyond. Tracorum dedicated efforts can been seen night after night in the contagious joy they exude while playing on stage and in the crowd’s attentive response to the ever changing eclectic music the band creates.

Members:
Fletcher Nielsen – Vocals/Piano/Harmonica/Guitar
Derek Brooker – Guitar/Vocals
Mark Calderon – Bass/Vocals
Ian “Inx” Herman – Drums/Percussion

” Sometimes we listen to music without really hearing it. However, when we’re ready to open up and experience a thing as it truly is, well, it can feel like a baptism. What they do is rock ‘n’ roll but done so fundamentally right it makes you want to kiss them when they power down their instruments. This night, as the festival raged like we’d never seen before on a Sunday eve, Tracorum embodied our collective high spirits and unspoken ache at this experience coming to a close and put those elements to work in some of the best boogie-minded, straight-great rock heard all weekend. Comparisons to The Band and studio aces The Wrecking Crew flitted through my brain as I danced to the heart of this fleeting makeshift town next to my loose-limbed sisters and brothers. Every aspect was right on the money and every man showed himself a massive talent on their respective instruments, pouring soul into every note, their conviction becoming our own.”

Until you have seen Scott Pemberton play the guitar it is hard to describe what he does. His music comes from the heart, is very danceable and quite honestly, no one plays the guitar like him. He gets regular comparisons to other great musicians such as Jimi Hendrix, Dick Dale, and James Brown, but after a brief listen it is clear that Scott has something all his own.

“Classic rock, jazz, psychedelia and everything in between collide and fuse around the notion of discovery that jumps with ease from the composer to the listener…Pemberton is a multi-genre master and a clever lyricist who can convey fun while digging deep”(Willamette Week)

Scott’s Path,
Scott is a Portland native and has supported himself solely with the guitar since the age of 19. Until recently, he followed the customary path of playing sessions, teaching lessons and performing in lots of bands. Not long ago he had an encounter with death that changed that path entirely.

The incident is a blur. Two years ago, bike met car. Doctors said Pemberton was unlikely to live. If he did, he might never speak again. Days later, Pemberton snapped to. After time, he started to play music again. He saw his path.

When Scott returned to playing the guitar it was as if he had been reborn, playing with a new focus of intensity and joy that can only come from someone who has faced death. He returned to intense practice from a beginners mind, as though he hadn’t played the guitar before, redefining how he approached music and the instrument. The mastery of his guitar playing combined with the fun recklessness of his songwriting show that the rules of songwriting and playing the guitar no longer exist for him. Scott plays with the uninhibited joy and intensity of someone who recognizes that every time time we make music is an honor and a gift.

Scott’s path is simple and clear. Make the best music he can…. Share it with others…. That is all.

BIO
Turkuaz is Brooklyn Power Funk. Their stage show combines influences from Sly and the Family Stone to Talking Heads into an explosive auditory and visual circus, a full-frontal assault on the senses. After multiple residencies at NYC’s Brooklyn Bowl, several blowout festival performances (Bear Creek, Mountain Jam, Strangecreek, Equifunk and Wormtown to name a few) and tours spanning the east and west coasts, Turkuaz has developed a reputation from NYC to San Francisco as the band that plays louder, faster, and harder than all the rest.

Born as a side project by co-founders Dave Brandwein and Taylor Shell, Turkuaz was formed in Boston in 2008. Unbeknownst to Dave and Taylor, a demo of theirs had been submitted to Berklee College of Music’s Heavy Rotation Records by a friend. Heavy Rotation immediately added Turkuaz to their annual showcase at the Berklee Performance Center, and the spark was lit. Dave and Taylor formed the current funk monstrosity from amongst their musician friends. Turkuaz’s first show was to 1,000 people at the Berklee Performance Center and was met with rave reviews. After a short time, the band migrated as a whole to Brooklyn, with the intention of bringing their brand of funk to New York.

With two independent album releases, tours up, down and across the country, a solid and ever-growing NYC fanbase, and the desire to only get bigger, Turkuaz keeps on perfecting their brand and continuing their upward trajectory at concerts and festivals across the country.
